Julia Mitchell - “A Day at the Races”

Photos: Chris Harten and Lorna Hill

Report: Lorna Hill

For our May meeting, Julia Mitchell’s theme was ‘A Day at the Races’. Each arrangement varied in design and colour and her foliage was very well conditioned with a product called ‘Quick Dip’. Julia had made a large curved structure out of orange and cream midollino sticks for an arrangement emulating a fascinator. Other arrangements were for the winners’ enclosure and the pavilion. A green, mostly foliage design represented the finishing post and incorporated two circular metal structures creatively entwined with textured green wool. Julia’s last design was in a huge metallic container for the gold cup winner! Members and guests thoroughly enjoyed Julia’s return visit to our club and some of us are looking forward to attending one of her workshops in Knowle.

Julia has kindly given us permission to use an image of one of her arrangements.
