Janet James (National Demonstrator)
Words and Photos: Lesley Vanezis
We were delighted to once again welcome Janet James, who stood in at the last moment for Arni Métairie who unfortunately was ill. Janet began her demonstration with a delightful spring flower arrangement arranged in a plastic pot without foam.
For her second arrangement, Janet used a natural straw basket which she skillfully filled with Phormium, Hellebore foliage, variegated Viburnum, Stocks, white Lilies, white Hydrangeas and white Roses.
For her next placement using Bergenia leaves, Hebe, Senecio, Euonymus and red Cornus Janet created a very striking design adding pink, orange and red Roses and Gerberas.
An interesting gilded piece of vine with manipulated Phormium, Fatsia, Protea ‘Kermit’ and ‘Shamrock’ Chrysanthemums along with pink tropical flowers, were used to create the fourth placement.
For her fifth design, Janet used a plank of teak wood and created her design with Fatsia, Eucalyptus, Mimosa, Gerbera, Chrysanthemums and Alstroemerias.
The final design incorporated a wicker heart with Eucalyptus, Yew, Fatshedera, Viburnum, Lilies and Roses. Janet then brought out an identical design which she had done earlier.
Throughout her demonstration Janet entertained the audience with many tips and anecdotes from her many years of flower arranging and demonstrating. A vote of thanks was given by Sue Wheeler.
