The Bromsgrove and District Flower Arranging Society is more than 40 years old, and much has changed since its inauguration. Here are some interesting snippets from the archives......

A meeting was held at Bromsgrove Public Library at 7.30 pm on Monday December 9th 1957, to inaugurate a Flower Club. 40 ladies attended, and 12 ladies agreed to form a Committee.

The first Committee meeting was held on Thursday December 19th 1957, where it was agreed that meetings would be held on the fourth Thursday of each month, starting from January 23rd 1958, in the Wesleyan Chapel, New Road, Bromsgrove. In the winter months (October to March), meetings would be held at 2.00 p m, and in the summer months, (April to September), meetings would be held at 7.30 p m.

The original name of the Society was Bromsgrove and District Flower Arrangement Club.

The Annual Subscription when the Club began was 15 shillings (75 pence in today's money!!).

The Club was only affiliated to the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) at first.

The Club moved its meeting place to Perry Hall from July 23rd 1959.

The Club became affiliated to the Three Counties and South Wales Area of NAFAS in January 1960.

At the meeting on Thursday 16th February 1961, names were taken of those members wishing to subscribe to the new magazine "The Flower Arranger"!

At the same meeting, for the first time, an attendance book was passed round and members asked to sign their name.

On June 29th 1961, the Club moved again to its present venue at All Saints Church Hall, Burcot Lane, Bromsgrove.
